The Welcome Swallow Gallery represents the Fine Art Society of New Zealand, thus enabling the gallery to access the back catalogues of established New Zealand artists. This fine painting by Aston Greathead (1921-2012), Mount Sefton in Autumn, retains a dream-liked quality, made possible by the artist’s use of only 4 colours, a novel method for post-impressionist works from the 1950s. A wonderful example of New Zealand art history.
