Toni Kingstone's evocative composition "Equals"
Throughout history, the separation between art and political commentary, implicitly or even explicitly has been, at best, thin. Artists are not immune to the context within which they bring their insights and skills to bear. From Picasso's Guernica, to Banksy street murals, art plays across the contours of the central thread of life.
Featured here is a startling, powerful composition, Equals, from Welcome Swallow Gallery artist Toni Kingstone. She has responded to recent global race and gender issues with a black and white acrylic, resin and collage piece of work that hews out of text, the simple statement "There is only one race, the human race".
Now in the Gallery Permanent Collection. Although recently sold, this work will remain in the gallery for the next few weeks until Christmas. Worth a visit to see.
