Debra Thompson's Everest
Debra Thomson's iconic composition But Ourselves, from the Ambiguity Exhibition, now sold, joins the proud gallery connection with Sir Edmund Hillary and the Hillary family. This painting is a stunning, vibrant contemporary visual feast that captures Hillary and Tenzing after their successful conquest of Everest, 29th May 1953. A year ago, the portrait of June, Lady Hillary by gallery artist, Rebecca Dowman-Ngapo, adorned the gallery walls prior to its final location in the Hillary collection in the Auckland Museum. The Welcome Swallow Gallery congratulates both artist and buyer who have established another contour of New Zealand history.
